**Albert “Zeke” O’Neal Starts Career at Wake Stone Corporation**

In 1973, at just 18 years old, Albert “Zeke” O’Neal made a life-changing decision that would shape his career path. Growing up near Knightdale in Wake County, North Carolina, O’Neal decided that following in his father’s footsteps as a tobacco farmer was not the future he wanted. Instead, he turned to the bustling activity at a local rock quarry for inspiration.

The quarry, opened in 1970 and operated by Wake Stone Corporation, was only three years old at the time. Seeing the potential, O’Neal took the initiative to walk into the quarry and ask for a job. This decision marked the start of his career in the industry.

The Nash County quarry, part of Wake Stone Corporation’s operations, was and continues to be a major player in the region's construction and aggregate industry. O’Neal’s career story highlights the opportunities provided by the quarry to local workers in eastern Wake County.
