**Eleanor Roosevelt’s First Press Conference for Women Celebrated on its 90th Anniversary**

As part of Women's History Month celebrations, the Wake County Board of Elections in Raleigh, North Carolina, highlights a milestone set on this day in 1933. Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the most influential First Ladies of the United States, held her first press conference exclusively for female reporters.

This groundbreaking initiative aimed to ensure that women journalists maintained employment during a challenging economic period marked by Depression-era layoffs. Throughout her tenure as First Lady, Roosevelt conducted a total of 348 press conferences for women, breaking barriers and creating opportunities for female professionals in journalism.

Her efforts underscored her belief in contributing not just to personal success but to the broader success of others, as echoed in her famous quote: “For our own success to be real, it must contribute to the success of others.”
