Rally for Freedom to Read Scheduled for October

The Freedom to Read Day of Action is set for October 19, 2024. The rally will be held at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn, New York, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event aims to raise awareness about censorship and promote the right to read.
Attendees can expect appearances from special guests, including Lee Rowland, the Executive Director of the National Coalition Against Censorship, and Eric Klinenberg, author of “2020: One City, Seven People, and the Year that Changed Everything” and “Palaces for the People.”
The rally will feature performances by the Resistance Revival Chorus and Fogo Azul, as well as an interview recording by StoryCorps, and a live taping of The Beautiful & Banned podcast. Teen advocates will also share inspiring calls to action. Partner organizations, including For Freedoms, PEN America, StoryCorps, and YVote, will have tables at the plaza throughout the morning.
