Two arrested after Apex car break-ins; third sought.
Apex, N.C. – At 3:50 p.m. today, Apex Police officers responded to reports of suspects breaking into multiple vehicles in the Beaver Creek Crossings retail parking areas, according to a police news release.
During the initial investigation, officers obtained a description of a possible suspect vehicle and noted that it had been seen leaving the area as officers arrived.
While canvassing nearby streets, an officer located the vehicle on E. Williams Street and initiated a traffic stop based on suspicion that the occupants were involved in multiple felony offenses. The driver failed to yield, and within seconds the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Apex Peakway and South Hughes Street.
Three individuals got out of the suspect vehicle and attempted to flee from the scene. Officers were able to quickly take two of them into custody. Despite an extensive search of the area, the third suspect was not located and remains outstanding. The department said there was no information indicating that the outstanding suspect posed a violent threat to the community, and noted that if there had been a broader safety concern, it would have been communicated through an alert.
The two individuals taken into custody, a 33-year-old male and a 26-year-old male, both from Norfolk, Virginia, will face multiple felony charges and will be transported to Wake County Jail. The investigation into the full circumstances of this incident remains ongoing.
The driver of the uninvolved vehicle was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The department offered thoughts for the driver's recovery.
The department said its top priority is the safety of everyone who lives, works, and visits the community, and it will conduct a thorough review to ensure its response reflects a commitment to public safety.
Beaver Creek Crossings has experienced ongoing thefts, often associated with organized groups, and officers continue working proactively to address those concerns. While most of these cases are resolved without violence, the release notes that this incident shows how quickly situations can change and the risks that can impact both officers and community members.
