Boise State Faculty’s Novel Becomes Amazon Prime Series

Cynthia Hand, a Boise State University alum and current faculty member, is a New York Times bestselling author and native of Eastern Idaho. Hand, who earned her MFA in creative writing in 2003, is known for her acclaimed novels. Her works include the “Unearthly” trilogy, The Last Time We Say Goodbye, The Afterlife of Holly Chase, The How & The Why, and With You All The Way.

Hand also co-authored a young adult series, The Lady Janie books, with fellow authors Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows. The series reimagines historical figures such as Lady Jane Grey, Jane Eyre, Mary, Queen of Scots, and Mary Shelley, blending humor, magic, and encounters between fictional and historical characters.

Her novel “My Lady Jane” became a streaming series on Amazon Prime. Hand recalled that she was cleaning her windows at home when she received news that the show had been greenlit, an experience she described as surreal.

In addition to her writing, Hand shares her expertise with students at Boise State in the Theatre, Film and Creative Writing department. She teaches courses in short story and novel writing and enjoys engaging with students through exercises such as imitating the style of iconic authors like Joyce Carol Oates.

Her work has garnered widespread attention and success, from bestselling books to a series streaming on a major platform, while she continues to mentor aspiring writers at Boise State.
